I’ve made far more resolutions than I’ve kept.
It’s a common situation: the symbolic start of a fresh year is inspiring–to me especially–and I start thinking of all the ways I wish I was better than I am. If I could just make a few adjustments, how much happier, more productive, or more successful could I be?
Self-improvement is certainly a valuable and important endeavor, but I’ve spent a lot of time resolving to change myself. But (and I’ve learned this the hard way) focusing on everything I want to change makes it way harder to recognize the ways I’m already great.
